Reasons to Despair: 1) Southern Africa

The southern Africa makes me sad. While it has everything on its side, so many acts of stupidness and ignorance just undermines its future. The Zimbabwe dictator Robert Mugabe and South Africas president Thabo Mbeki are guilty of a frightening and accelerating developement away from the road of free speech, freedom of thoughts and democracy. Whilst the people are starving and suffering under the yoke of HIV/AIDS the two presidents just strenghtens the opression from day to day. New censorship regulations make it impossible for media in South Africa to critizise and analyse its regime, aggressive attacks on the political oppossition crushes every hope of democracy in Zimbabwe. Once the ANC in South Africa and Zanu-PF fought for freedom from the apartheid regime, today they act like one. How could it go so wrong? Why does Mugabe tear down houses for hundred of thousands of poor Africans just because they protest against his regime? Why does he steal the farms from the farmers on the country side? Why does Mbeki deny the plauge of HIV/AIDS as a fraud? What happened to the legacy of Nelson Mandela? The apartheid regimes of Rhodesia and the boer South Africa are long gone. Yet the times are getting worse for the people of southern Africa. That is a reason to Despair.
