The Terminator

This week Tookie Williams - former Crips gang member, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and childrens book author was executed in San Quentin, CA. Tookie who was held by president Bush as an example of how fantastic it is that in America former gang members can become well adjusted persons writing childrens books, was given no pardon by the californian gouvernor steroidsuperman Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger is the bad example who killed an good example. Just as Tookie realized how the nature of crime and violence creates a spiral of more crime and violence, Scwarzenegger now experiences how the nature of political adjustments destroys all that once was good intentions and idealism.

Immidiate family

The american fothographer Sally Mann captures her family in a beautiful melancholy in the book "Immidiate family". When I first opened the book I was struck with the frankness and openhearted clearity which follows the pictures like a thin red line. The pictures of her daughters and son (arranged or documentary) sometimes fills me with a sad realization of how the time passes by and in the end leaves us behind - alone with only memories. How amazing isn´t the photographic form - when it takes us back in time and recalls passed days. It is like the scent of my mothers pillow when I was a child or music from special moments of my life. This is the wonder of Sally Manns art. It is the emotion of hollowness combined with nostalgia and hope. Like the worn barns and farmhouses in Virginia, all bearing their history of summers filled with play and tears. Beautiful - yet so sad.

CIA and democracy

Torture under american flag inside the EU? It´s a disgrace for the US and their hollow talk about democracy and human values. Where is the beacon of freedom or the watchdogs of the human rights now? Not in Poland or Romania anyway. Absolutely not in the White house. America has forgot what we have fought for since the French Revolution. They do not care about all those values their founding fathers stood up for. In old soviet compounds the cry of agony and pain now washes away our surface of dignity. While the concrete walls are bearing withness of the shame we all must carry the words of the primogeniture president rings like ghostly howlings in the night. This is the end of the western reign of democratic values - sixteen years after the end of the wall.
